What: A NATO task force will depart from Sicily towards Libya and launch stand-off strikes to enemy positions that may oppose resistance. Once landed at HLLM, both NATO and GNA will establish a counter-No-Fly-Zone over Western Lybia and conduct airstrikes on LNA positions.
ROE: Any LNA (OPFOR) jet or asset has to be considered hostile. NATO is cleared hot.
Background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Western_Libya_offensive The 2019 Western Libya offensive, code-named "Operation Flood of Dignity", is a military campaign by the Libyan National Army under Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, which represents the Libyan House of Representatives, to capture the western region of Libya and eventually the capital Tripoli held by the UN Security Council-recognised Government of National Accord. The offensive resulted in almost 1,100 dead and 5,800 injured. It began on 4 April 2019, just ten days before the Libyan National Conference for organizing presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya had been planned to take place, and five days after the first session of the 2019 Libyan local elections was held successfully. War crimes and crimes against humanity that take place during the conflict are covered by the mandate of the International Criminal Court investigation in Libya under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1970.
After 3 months of enduring conflict, GNA is in a critic situation with many losses and almost no air force to support the operations. LNA forces are steadily proceeding towards Tripoli and it's in the interest of both UN and most international governments to avoid the city being conquered.
Because the situation is getting out of control the UN and NATO have come to the conclusion that a military intervention is necessary in order to stabilize the region. Both parties share the idea that extensive participation would only create further destabilization in an already fragile country, thus agreeing on a short resolution aimed to disrupt LNA and its assets in order to support GNA in its own defense of the territory. Decision-makers kept this mission classified, meaning that LNA is not aware of a NATO task force which is going to intervene in Libya. This resolution has been called Operation Swift Resolve.
Remarks: - OPRF Rules are in effect. - This event will include MP automat aircrafts flying for LNA. In case there is a small presence of NATO pilots, BLUFOR automats will fly alongside them. - Unless NATO finds a tanker pilot, use of AI tankers is recommended, in particular during the first part of the event. Although refueling MUST HAPPEN OUTSIDE hostile territory over the Mediterranean Sea. - This 1-day event format aims to allow a combination of "mixed" warfare, with both long-range and close A/G and what were "old school" OPRF A/A fights. - The event should allow all NATO pilots to be eligible for rank promotion (if/when applicable).
