I have been thinking about adding squadrons to the FlightGear Operation Red Flag Military Group. I developed this idea into an solid plan: specific squadron tasks, rules, and organisation. You can read all plans and information in this post.
RULES: - You must obtain the OPRF general rules. - You may be member of multiple squadrons, but you have to be able to fulfill their task correctly. The squadron leader will decide whether you can join or not. - Squadron ranks (note: ask pinto for your up-to-date rank): ---- The minimum rank to join one or multiple squadrons is 1st Lieutenant. --- The minimum rank for squadron leader of one squadron is Captain. --- The minimum rank for squadron leader of multiple squadrons is Major. --- The minimum rank for wing leader of one wing is Brigadier General. --- The minimum rank for wing leader of multiple wings is Major General. - There is no limit of joined squadrons (yet), you can join as much as you want. However, as said before, you need to fulfill the squadron mission. - In contrast to the previous rule, you cannot join two squadrons with the same overall task. - To be a squadron leader, you have to be often online and very involved.
SQUADRON TASKS: - AWACS/refueler - Heavy Bombers - (Troop) Transport (rotary and/or fixed wing) - Medical Assistance - Fighters (offensive) - Fighters (defensive) - Heavy Attack (A-10) - Medium Attack (F-16, JAS-37, ect.) - SEAD - Aggressor
SQUADRON ORGANISATION: As there are probably many members who are capable of Fighter (offensive), Fighter (defensive), and Medium Attack there will probably be multiple squadrons tasked the same. As said before, you cannot join two of these squadrons with the same overall task. It is also expected that some squadrons will be smaller, for instance Heavy Bombers or Medical Assistance, partly because of lack of interest, partly because of complicated aircraft. Therefore, some squadrons may be merged, trying to match the tasks of these squadrons as well as possible. If you want to join a merged squadron, you only have to be capable of the task you intended to do. Only a squadron leader has to be capable of all the tasks.
Because of the fact that not everyone is capable of flying all OPRF-aircraft, squadrons may fly more types of aircraft than in real life. However, if there is another squadron primarily flying the aircraft.
SQUADRON NAMES: All squadrons will be based on real squadrons. A merged squadron will be based on multiple real squadrons, under the name of a fictional squadron. You can (and I patiently ask you to) submit a squadron, there will be a big chance you become in charge of that squadron.
LIST OF SUBMITTED SQUADRONS: - 493FS (USAF); Fighters (offensive), Fighters (defensive) - 510FS (USAF); Medium Attack, Fighters (defensive); Assisting: Medical Assistance, Troop Transport - 313sqn (RNLAF); Medium Attack, Fighter (defensive); Assisting: Medical Assistance, Troop Transport
I hope you all like this idea! Kind regards, Reaper

Look, all those squadrons seem nice, but there are no VF squadrons.I would suggest you to have the VF-102''Diamondbacks'' as Naval Fighter sqn(defensive) and VF-103''JollyRoggers'' as Naval Fighter sqn(offensive). I would be really happy, as I fly the F-14 only, and also the F-14 has for long been in the JollyRoggers and the Diamonbacks as well.
Here's the full list. It's based on aircraft type and operators and the number of squadrons depends on how many pilots are expected to be part of them. Those marked INACTIVE means they are currently non-joinable unless required. Highlighted in blue are ones which already have a Sqn Leader. In order to get a squadron running, a high-ranked pilot needs to step up to lead it and find at least another member joining it.
REQUIREMENTS to join/lead a squadron/wing: - The minimum rank to join squadron is . - The minimum rank to join squadrons is . - The minimum rank to be squadron leader of squadron is . - The minimum rank to be squadron leader of squadrons is . - The maximum number a and above can join is . - The maximum number of squadrons a and above can lead is . - and above have in how much squadrons they can .
OVERALL SQUADRON RULES: - Discord name format including squadron name is suggested but not enforced. If applied it MUST be as follows: Nickname | Sqn short name. Ex1: J Maverick 16 | 31st FW Ex2: Reaper | 313 Sqn. Such format is to avoid nickname cluttering and provide quick and easy visualization. If part of 2 or more squadrons, nickname should always display the primary squadron of operation or the one representing at the time of usage. - Squadron leaders may request a dedicated channel in the OPRF Discord server but should NOT create a specific squadron server. This rule is made to avoid getting the conversation away from the OPRF Discord and avoid splitting up the group unnecessarily. - Squadrons may host casual training flights but ALL OPRF exercises and events MUST be JOINT. OPRF is regarded as a SINGLE, UNITED entity, therefore squadrons may not represent a detachment from such group and no restrictions as of aircraft are to be enforced unless required by event planners.
The ONLY way to request being part of or lead a squadron is by on this topic. Mav

OK then,I'd sure like to apply for VF-102.If you believe I can be a squadron leader, then do what you want.I'm not any kind of superior to decide whether I can be a squad leader or not.The decision is up to you.
OK,as long as I'm squadron leader, all members will be provided each with their very own livery of the squadron. The can of course use it whenever they want,or when operating with the squad, again the choice is theirs. Also, IF THE MEMBERS WANT,they can use a MP callsign when flying with the squadron. The callsign should be "D-[number on your nose,e.g. 101]".As for our operating base,we can have all NASs in FlightGear, and of course every MP carrier that spawns can always be our base,if that, too, agrees with us landing on it.If members would also like this idea,we could train all together, one or 2 times per week, whenever possible for everybody to join,so we keep our F-14 skills as good as possible,to be able to encounter any opponent in the sky.
Anyway, here is the list of the squadron members so far.Note this is to be updated every time somebody joins.
When the squadrons are activated, can I please enter: -EC 1/2 "Cigognes" (Mirage 2000 ssquadron) to which I apply as commander as soon as Pinto updates the roles -313 sqn (RNLAF, F-16) commanded by Reaper | 313sqn RNLAF -VF-102 "Diamondbacks" commanded by VooDoo3 -354th FS (A-10)

You need to be rank Major and above to apply as Sqn Leader as per requirements. Once so, you will be able to lead, unless somebody else does so before. Until that, the EC 1/2 won't be activated as per any other squadron without a commanding leader.
