EXERCISE TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2018

Background story:

http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/24600/nato-unfazed-by-russia-plans-to-fire-missiles-near-its-massive-exercise-off-norway

Scandinavia is hosting the biggest NATO multi-national training exercise since the end of Cold War, with hundreds of planes, ships, vehicles, etc.
Aim is to test the alliance's defense capability in adverse weather and territory against a big powerful adversary, which can be easily regarded as Russia.
Of course, the Russian Federation isn't quite happy of it and decides to make its own drills in continental waters north of Scandinavia which among others includes frigates firing missiles and aerial sorties in areas used also by the Alliance for Trident Juncture.
NATO responds to this "downplaying the provocation, acknowledging the Kremlin’s right to use international waters, but have called on the Russians to “behave in a professional way” to avoid any incidents or accidents".

Today (Nov. 1st), during a routine sortie of NATO jets linked to the exercise in an undisclosed location over Norwegian skies, a serious accident happened.
From what we know, NATO fighters (nation and aircraft type remain unknown at this time), had a close encounter with Russian fighters (rumors say Su-27s) which infringed Norway's airspace and flew "close" to the Alliance's jets at a point that provocative acts (we aren't talking about cocky "Top Gun" acts here [ed.]) were made. This led to one of the Russian fighters apparently opening fire on one of the NATO jets which experienced fatal damage and crashed into the sea. The pilot status remains uncertain.
As tensions quickly arose, Kremlin denies the episode stating that "nothing of what has been said is truth", even though witnesses confirm the crash happened and the other pilots involved confirmed the accident.

UPDATE (11/01 - 2108z): The diplomatic situation has degraded quickly and NATO decided to send additional assets in the region in case of a possible conflict which may unfold after today's events. These assets are expected to be deployed on Friday 2nd at 1900z time from RAF Lakenheath, UK to Bodo Main Air Station, Norway.

UPDATE (11/02 - 0924z): Tensions have risen quickly overnight when Russian Navy deployed further frigates at approximately 30NM north from Norwegian waters. The NORAD increased level of alert to DEFCON 2 with NATO countries readying their militaries for a possible response to further provocations from the Federation.
In the mean time a rescue mission has located aircraft parts 40NM out of Sto, seemingly from the crashed aircraft. While there has been no official press release regarding which jet was involved, first indiscretions talk about an F-16 aircraft. Pilot status yet remains unknown at this time even though the hopes of finding him alive in the arctic sea is remote.

UPDATE (11/02 - 1135z): BREAKING: Canadian frigate HMCS "Ville de Québec" has found a body in the Norwegian water which without doubt is of the downed fighter pilot. NATO planned a press conference later today to clarify the events of these hours.

UPDATE (11/02 - 1247z): NATO secretary general confirmed that the downed jet is an F-16AM belonging to the Royal Danish Air Force and the pilot, Cpt. Frederik Larsen, is confirmed dead, addressing his prayers to the family and the close friends affected by this tragedy. There will be a second press release shortly.

UPDATE (11/02 - 1334z): In the second press release has been declared that Russian actions have been deeply condemned, aren't and won't be tolerated anymore by the Alliance. Secretary general declared that after a crisis summit has taken place in NATO HQ, a unanimous decision has been taken against Russia: the Kremlin has been sent an ultimatum lasting 24 hours in which they are forced to withdraw their forces from the Norwegian sea, suspend all military activities of any kind until Trident Juncture comes to an end, release a former apology to the family of Cpt. Larsen, the entire Denmark and the Alliance plus other sanctions as an addition.

UPDATE (11/02 - 2138z): Russia hasn't given any signal of accepting the ultimatum NATO has imposed. Instead, massive Russian military movements are being noted in northern Scandinavia which suggests that a war might just be around the corner at this point. NATO support forces have arrived at Bodo to strengthen the military presence and are ready to deploy whenever needed.

UPDATE (11/02 - 2202z): Norway officials report that amphibious hostile forces have landed into its territory occupying it with force. There's the fear that they might also occupy an airport to use as FOB for their fighters and HQ of their invasion.
Today's events are just the start of what could be the biggest conflict on European soil after the end of Jugoslav wars in the early 2000s.

I'd say we certainly need a "Fly-in", where we have a base that everyone flies to and enjoys the day together, then when they have to go, they leave their aircraft there in parking online.

The more we can get parked the better... good advertising.

Sounds good to me. I've already got a few ideas about bases we could use there. Since we have become sort of global, I think it would be too much to start the fly-in from Nellis so I'd opt for a closer place in Europe.
Regarding the event itself, I'd go for some kind of fight against OPFOR forces maybe which could include assets like ships and SAMs for example.
