Certain joystick (such as my logitech 3d and SL-6640-BlackWidow) have varying degress of bad non linearity. This is often evidenced when flying the F-15 as twitchy response around the centre position.

Adapt and tune the following. The lines to tune are the power and the factor; although these lines work fine and are a good starting point.

If you want to prove this, use the joystick window in flightgear and make a calibrated scale out of a piece of paper between full deflections (of the joystick). This should go from -1 to 1 with centre at zero. Move the joystick against the calibrated scale and make sure that the numbers in flightgear correspond.
