Every year, the Royal Netherlands Air Force organizes an international exercise at “Vliegbasis Leeuwarden”. This Airbase gives home to the 322 squadron, whose motto is: “Niet praten maar doen”, which can be translated to: “Don’t talk but act”. The legendary ‘Polly Grey’ is since the establishment of the squadron way back in World War II its proud mascot. The 322 Squadron is also responsible for the QRA task.
Vliegbasis Leeuwarden has played an important role in the Dutch military aviation history. It has seen almost all meaningful aircraft of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, such as the Gloster Meteor, Hawker Hunter, and the F-104 Starfighter. In the near future all F-16s will be replaced with the F-35A. This procedure has already been started and the first F-35 arrived on the 31st of October 2019.
This 7-day exercise will focus on all aspects of real combat situations. Be prepared for a busy airspace!
